Just when we got the hang of this whole internet business, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) allows it to become bigger and inevitably, more complex. The grandest outcome is off course that you can now decide on your domain name. That’s the obvious good news. The bad news however, is that setting up one of these new domains can set you back anything from $100 000 to $500 000, at least for the first few years. Even if money is not a problem you entertain easily, hang on a second and think carefully before you buy that coveted domain, especially if you’re the one who decides which one your company should have. How do you decide if .castle or .beer will be the one to stand the true test of time? Not that easy anymore, is it? To compound the conundrum: If you don’t register that domain, someone else will, and they will make a nice profit selling castle.lager to the parent company. |
