Location Based Service is essentially the tracking of a mobile device on the mobile network. LBS allows you to reasonably accurately track a cell phone in a mobile network and pass back Latitude and Longitude parameters that can be displayed on a PC or mobile Mapping System. Accuracy depends on the mobile network tower density and varies from area to area. For example in a densely populated urban area you can get accuracy readings of up to 50 meters but on the highway the accuracy may be a few kilometres. LBS is useful for tracking applications, managing staff, tracking assets, personal security/alert systems and the like. Integrat provides a tool that allows you to track through a GPS enabled mobile phone without LBS, and also provides Tracking Hardware Solutions. LBS and GPS is often used in parallel on devices that support both options. |
