For many elderly persons, the Rusoord Old Age Home in Centurion is a final place of refuge. And although it is an old age home where patients are mostly sickly - some to the extent that they’re unaware of their surroundings – many of them are still a 100% sound of mind and always eager to make conversation. Integrat, along with Hatfield Christian Church South, who have been working with the Home for a long time, spend a morning with the Rusoord patients handing out chocolates, conversing (more listening than speaking) and singing psalms, which brought smiles and tears to many an eye. After an emotional farewell one can once again be left with the realisation of how easily a lonely, sick person’s day can be bettered. Even though we could not spend a lot of money on this project it was profoundly meaningful, because “… it is when we give of ourselves that we truly give,” - Khalil Gibran. Chrismas project The Rusoord Old Age Home in Centurion was kind enough to allow us to arrange a Christmas Party for their residents. We decided to not only treat them with Christmas carols and presents, but also to home made fruit salad and ice-cream, which was no easy task since there were around 138 people to feed. We borrowed some members from Hatfield Christian Church, organised a guitar, microphone and some amateur singers to lead the people in song. Christmas time is an emotional time for many people and it was not long before the tears started flowing. Watching these people, who are forgotten by many, eating their dessert and opening their presents, touched our hearts and blessed us greatly. Once again our charity project proved that it is far greater to give than to receive.
